WELCOME TO MY WEBSITE
The Cross for the church hall is well underway (see Present Art Activity page for more)
In the main I am a figure painter, and not, as it may look from the above a carpenter. Recently I have begun to delve into the world of gardens and landscapes and have begun to incorporate these findings into my work. I draw inspiration from a wide variety of sources – mostly from people and life, but also newspaper cuttings and fellow artists. I enjoy all aspects of my art, researching it, the sheer "stuff" of it, painting males, females, adults and children. I am equally fascinated by peace and tranquillity, as I am dance and gay abandonment – simply any snipped of life. In terms of methodology, I happily oscillate between abstraction and figuration. The second I recognise an image in my work I immediately have a need to make it more elusive; as soon as it’s elusive I have an urge to make it recognisable again. The art I produce results from my movement along this continuum. I am unconcerned with the ‘formal rules’ that govern art – my one and only concern is that the painting ‘feels’ right. I refuse to commit to any one style as this I feel would be a false representation of who I am. My main aspiration is to be honest and make art that is a “real” expression of who I am and what I think and feel. If my work bypasses the intellect then that is a real bonus. As such my desire is that when someone looks at a piece of my work they will not simply ‘think’ something – but ‘FEEL’ something and be moved. Please email me expressyourself.me@gmail.com if you have any queries, comment, wish to buy or commission work.
